In 1999, SC/US launched the Haripur District Reproductive Health Program. This program focuses on the Reproductive Health issues of safe motherhood, family planning, and management and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) / Reproductive Tract Infections (RTIs). Funding support comes from the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the Packard Foundation and the Gates Foundation (through the Saving Newborn Lives Initiative-SNL). From 2002 to 2004, under its SNL initiative, Save the Children piloted the use of the Positive Deviance Approach to improve maternal and newborn care in 6 villages.
